PRIVATE company Asian Vision has rolled out its free public Wifi project in three provinces to address the demand for internet connectivity especially amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“In October 2019, we installed and pilot tested thirty (30) public Wifi hotspots in Zambales, and ten (10) each in Batangas and Quezon,” said Engr. Neil Tagabi, head of the engineering unit of Asian Vision, a cable TV and broadband provider operating in the provinces of Batangas, Quezon and Zambales.
Today, a total of 150 public Wifi hotspots are active in their service areas, with internet speed pegged between 20-150Mbps. Coverage is estimated at a radius of 100 meters, which could benefit a number of households and users at any given time.
“We at Asian Vision want to ensure that everyone stays connected during this extraordinary time when internet is most vital for education, work, information and even entertainment. Admittedly, the pandemic greatly affected the timeline of our installation schedule, but we vow to increase the number of our free Wifi hotspots in the next coming months,” said Treb Vegerano, the Marketing, Sales and Customer Care head of Asian Vision.
Vegerano added that the free public Wifi could be likened to community pantries that provide free food to everyone. “As part of our corporate social responsibility efforts, we want to help in any way we can and contribute to the community, but instead of food, we provide free public Wifi. Access to food is a basic human right, as much as access to Internet.”
Asian Vision has installed their Wifi hotspots in high foot traffic areas, such as public markets, parks, and jeepney/bus transport terminals.
According to Vegerano and Tagabi, Asian Vision also plans to put up wifi hotspots in public schools, state college and universities once regular face-toface classes are allowed.
